There is another contestant in the battle for the world's smallest mini washing machine, which we've been observing for the past 15 years. Called the SpotLess Turbo Washer, it's actually more correct to call it a stain removal device. Not only can it clean stains on clothes, it also supposedly removes them from furniture and carpets. Solar Portable Clothes Dryer

As a company which specializes in extremely energy efficient laundry appliances, such as a series of portable clothes dryers, we very interested to see this new type of solar clothes dryer. Made by Greenway, it looks like a regular old outdoor clothesline. However, it has a patented design with a solar panel at the top. The solar panel doesn't actually dry the clothes, rather it provides the energy to rotate the top portion of the laundry pole to increase airflow to the clothes. According to the manufacturer, it cuts drying time in half compared to traditional clotheslines.

Boil Your Clothes Clean in a Mini Washing Machine

They are not yet available in the USA, but there is a type of mini washing machine that washes, sterilizes and disinfects using boiling water. It's an "old-school" laundry technique wrapped up in a stylish new age design. It touches upon a new topic, that is many people these days are using cold water to wash clothes, in an attempt to reduce their carbon footprint and save money. However while we are all for this approach, the laws of science don't care. Water below a given temperature won't kill certain bacteria and other organisms. (more…)

Washing Machine Suitcase

We live, breathe, eat and sleep portable washing machines and dryers, so we are admittedly biased. But in our humble opinion, the washing machine suitcases made at http://www.suitsuit.com are the coolest we've ever seen. It's not an actual washing machine, but sure looks like one. They have some other really beautiful suitcase designs as well.Actually some inventors have looked into the idea of making a suitcase that can wash or dry clothes, but nothing's ever made it to market. Doing laundry while traveling can be a hassle and/or expensive, so who knows maybe one day this will be a real washer in a suitcase.

Wood Burning Portable Washing Machine?

We recently noticed an extremely interesting, concept portable washing machine from India. Concept washers are a dime a dozen, and most are not that well thought out. On the other hand, the Indra washing machine by Elodie Delassus appears to be a more serious effort. The basic premise (that labor is cheaper than using electricity and electric washers) makes a great deal of sense. (more…)
