Should you use a garbage disposal if you have a septic tank?
The answer is very simple:
A garbage disposal normally doubles the amount of solids added to the tank. Therefore, you have 2 options:
A. Don't use a garbage disposal
B. Use a garbage disposal and get the tank pumped twice as often- if the added convenience is worth more to you than the extra expenses you will be incurring.
Of course there will always be people who disagree with this advice, but most true septic system experts will tell you to either not use a garbage disposal or get your septic system pumped out more often if you do use one.
As you may know from researching this topic, failing septic systems are a major financial and environmental problem in this country.
