Mr. Li, a taxi driver from Chongqing, recently invented and patented a highly unique portable washing machine designed to wash underwear. Why underwear? Don't you just put it in the washing machine with the rest of your clothes? Actually it turns out some Chinese prefer to wash their underwear separately, for hygiene reasons. (more…)

Why Spin Dryers Rock

The USA could save 6-10% of all home energy consumption simply by using spin dryers. That may seem like an outrageous statement but it's true. Conventional tumble dryers are energy hogs, they use 5000+ watts and run for a long time. On the other hand, spin dryers use 100 TIMES less energy than conventional tumble dryers. A cycle is only about 3 minutes, so they are fast as well. To top it off they are much gentler on the clothes and don't produce any lint. So your clothes will last longer and look nicer. (more…)

Mini Countertop Clothes Dryer

For many people living in apartments and other small spaces, one of the main questions is how to do dry the clothes? There is often no washer dryer hookup, or even if there is, little to no space to install a large dryer. There are some very small, compact, countertop tumble dryers on the market. We looked into them, however the main issue is the extremely long drying time. Unlike a conventional tumble dryer, which gets the clothes dry in under an hour in most cases, the mini tumble dryers we tested took several hours to get jeans dry. As we specialize in eco-friendly products, we feel there is nothing eco-friendly about a dryer that uses thousands of watts and runs for hours. So we decided not to carry them. (more…)

Jumping Spin Dryer

As a company which has specialized in spin dryers for many years, we found this video not only hilarious but also true. One of the basic rules of spin dryer quality is, all spin dryers are the same, until you run a load with clothes in it. We've seen some otherwise interesting spin dryers that jump like this and have even ripped out the electrical plug from the outlet! Some even fall on their sides! (more…)

Laundry Detergent Not Required?

A very interesting article in the Wall Street Journal discussed how many people use too much laundry detergent. Not only does this waste money, it actually leads to worse cleaning results, can cause odors and even damage your washing machine. With new high-efficiency detergents and washers, it's even much more critical to measure detergent properly than it used to be. (more…)

Wonderwash Manual Washing Machine

The Wonderwash is a manual washing machine that offers many advantages over electrical models. First is price, at only $42.95 it's much less than electric washers with this capacity, which are typically in the $100 range.First, most of the electric mini washers with this capacity are barely any easier to use. With the exception of a couple of our models, they don't have an automatic rinse cycle, nor a water level switch that shuts the water off when full. You have to babysit them, meaning you have to stand by to turn off the water when full, then turn the water back on to manually start the rinse cycle. With the Wonderwash, because it uses much less water for the same size load, you actually save time versus the electric mini washers. The only benefit to the electric models the hands-free wash cycle, however as this only 1-2 minutes in the Wonderwash, there's not much advantage at all. No mini washers have spin cycles so that is a "wash." (more…)

Inflatable Mini Washing Machine Invention

Several years ago, a company named Astone developed a really cool inflatable mini washing machine. Currently, even the smallest mini washers including our Wonderwash are too large for travel, unless you are in an RV. However this invention uses a novel approach by making the 4 walls out of an inflatable material. So when it's not in use, you let the air out and it folds down to a very small size that can easily fit in a suitcase. Weighing only 4.4 lbs. it's not going to make your suitcase much heavier or become overweight. While designed for travelers, it would also be a great fit for small apartments where space is at a premium.
